Bat Superhero: FREE Crochet Pattern

What You’ll Need:

 

Yarn:
All yarn is worsted weight (4). I use Brava Worsted Weight from Knit Picks  and Bernat Satin - Camel for the skin, but any acrylic worsted yarn will work.
-Black: 150 yards
-Grey: 125 yards
-Beige/Skin Colour: Less than 50 yards
-Yellow: Less than 15 yards


Hook: 4.25mm (G)

*Darning needle
*Polyester stuffing
*Scissors
*1 sheet of black, yellow and white felt
*Hot Glue Gun
*Black embroidery thread
*Optional: Wooden Dowel/Foam Hair curler for head/neck support


Gauge: Not needed, doll works up to approximately 12-15 inches depending on yarn and tension used.

Abbreviations:
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
ch - chain
sc2tog – single crochet two together/invisible decrease
slst – slip stitch
Rnd – round
st(s) - stitch(es)
dc - double crochet
Ps - Puff Stitch: Yarn over (yo), insert the hook in the stitch, yarn over, draw the yarn through the stitch, yarn over, and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook. In the same stitch, repeat the preceding step three times. Yarn over and draw the yarn through all 5 loops on the hook.
BLO – back loop only
FLO – front loop only
FP - Front Post
FO - fasten off by slip stitching in the next stitch

Rnd 2: (1sc, 2sc in next st) x2 (6)

Rnd 5: sc in each st around (8) FO, leaving 6-8 inch tail for sewing.
*Flatten ears and place on either side of Rnd 7 of head. Sew along base of Rnd 5 into head to secure into place.*

Row 1: Ch10, starting in 2nd ch from hook, 9sc across, ch1 & turn (9)
Row 2: 2sc in next st, 7sc, 2sc in next st, ch1 & turn (11)
Row 3-4: sc in each st across, ch1 & turn (11)
Row 5: 2sc in next st, 9sc, 2sc in next st, ch1 & turn (13)
Row 6-8: sc in each st across, ch1 & turn (13)

*Turn cape and sc up side until you reach the end of Row 1. Ch 8, starting in 2nd ch from hook, slst in each ch. Join back onto cape, and sc across Row 1. Upon reaching the beginning of Row 1, ch 8. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, slst in each ch. Join back onto side of cape and sc down the side until you reach the beginning of Row 23. FO and weave in ends. Wrap the two chains at each end of Row 1 around neck until the ends meet at the front of the neck, and sew into place.*

 
Belt
Working with Yellow yarn in rows
Row 1: Ch55, starting in 2nd ch from hook, 54sc across, ch1 & turn (54)
Row 2: 54sc across (54) FO, leaving a 12 inch tail for sewing.

Belt Loops
Working with Yellow yarn in rows (Make 6)
Ch 5, starting in 2nd ch from hook, 4sc across (4) FO, leaving a 4-6 inch tail for sewing.

Belt Buckle
Working with Yellow yarn in joined rounds
Rnd 1: Ch6, starting in 2nd ch from hook, 4sc across, 3sc in last ch, turn and continue working along opposite side of ch - 3sc, 2sc in last st (12)
Rnd 2: 2sc in next st, 3sc, (2sc in next st) x3, 3sc, (2sc in next st) x2 (18) FO, leaving a 6-8 inch tail for sewing.

 *Place belt over Rnds 52/53 of body where Grey and Black yarn meet with the ends of the belt centered at the front of the belly. Using tail, sew into place. Place Belt Buckle centered on the belly (on top of where the ends of the belt meet and sew into place. Position Loops vertically over belt approximately 5-6 stitches apart and sew into place.*

Felt Cut Outs:
Cut out the following shapes from felt and hot glue gun into place:

Eyes:
Using white felt, cut two half circle shapes and place just above last round of Black on head.


Chest Emblem:
Using yellow felt, cut out an elongated oval equal to approximately 8 stitches in length across the chest. Draw the bat logo slightly smaller. Glue onto each other and place 1-2 rounds below neck/cape.
